Yanchao is a current Master in City Planning candidate at MIT in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning. At MIT, she is researching the urban mobility with call detailed record (CDR) data in Africa countries and is writing her thesis on the topic. She likes to work with data to understand equality and social vulnerability.

Before MIT, Yanchao worked at Turenscape (Beijing HQ) as an urban planner after graduating from Peking University with a master degree of landscape architecture. Her previous projects include solving problems for economic development in rural communities in Guangxi (China) and raising sustainable solutions for jute mills in West Bengal (India).
