“Visualize NYC 2021” Launches Crowdsourced Data Mini-Site

October 23, 2020
On October 7, 2020, the Civic Data Design Lab, American Institute of Architects (AIA) New York, and Center for Architecture launched visualizenyc.net, an interactive crowdsourcing site part of the main “Visualize NYC 2021” exhibition. The crowdsourcing site asks visitors to share their visions of a better New York City for all.

For example Ifemo Ebo, Foundation Director and Urban Designer at Urban Alchemy, asked:
“We can cultivate, catalyze, and amplify Black joy in New York City by...”

A visitor answered by writing:
“More opportunities for Black young people, especially young men and queer folks.”

Visitors’ collective responses will create an unprecedented dataset reflecting New Yorkers’ wants, needs, concerns, and dreams for their city. Responses can be explored through four living data visualizations. We hope this data set will help to influence New York City’s new governing body that will be elected in November 2021.

The main “Visualize NYC 2021” exhibition will open virtually on November 16, 2020. This exhibition responds to the historic opportunity for change in New York City’s next 12 months, and is in collaboration with AIA New York and the Center for Architecture.

Tell us about your hopes and dreams for New York City at visualizenyc.net.
